About Gert-Johan Coetzee
Gert-Johan Coetzee is a renowned South African fashion designer celebrated for his exquisite red carpet and wedding gowns. His designs have graced international and local celebrities, including Kourtney Kardashian, Kristen Cavallari, Bonang Matheba, and many more. Since 2009, Coetzee has partnered with the North West School of Design (NWSD) to offer bursaries aimed at nurturing the next generation of fashion designers in South Africa.
The Gert-Johan Coetzee Bursary Program
Gert-Johan Coetzee invites aspiring fashion designers to apply for the Gert-Johan Coetzee Fashion Bursary for the 2025 academic year. This prestigious bursary offers students the opportunity to pursue a three-year Fashion Design course at the North West School of Design, an internationally accredited institution located in Klerksdorp, North West province. The program will commence on January 31, 2025.
What the Bursary Covers
The bursary covers the following expenses:
- Tuition Fees: Full coverage for three years of study, valued at R176,000.
- Laptop: Sponsored by Computer Shop Klerksdorp, valued at R15,000.
- Bernina Sewing Machine: Valued at R14,000.
Please note that the bursary does not cover personal stationery, personal laptops, accommodation, or meals. These costs will need to be covered by the student.
Internship Requirements
Bursary recipients are required to complete two internship programs each year at the Gert-Johan Coetzee studios during the holidays, providing valuable hands-on experience in the fashion industry.
Selection Process
The North West School of Design will announce five finalists on September 20, 2024. These finalists will attend an open day at the school on September 28, 2024, where Gert-Johan Coetzee will select the final bursary winner.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the Gert-Johan Coetzee Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
- Age: Must be 18 years or older.
- Educational Background: Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric with a Diploma exemption.
- Study Commitment: Must intend to study full-time towards a 3-year Fashion Design course at NWSD and be able to start on January 31, 2025.
- Language Proficiency: Must be fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Prospectus: Must have read the NWSD course prospectus.
How to Apply
