Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund (LPFF) Bursary | The Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund (LPFF), previously known as the Attorneys Fidelity Fund (AFF), is a fidelity guarantee fund in South Africa. Its primary mission is to protect the public from financial losses due to theft of trust funds by attorneys. If you’ve suffered a monetary or property loss due to an attorney’s dishonest actions, you can seek reimbursement through the LPFF, ensuring that you can engage with legal practitioners confidently.

Beyond safeguarding the public, the LPFF is committed to nurturing future legal professionals by offering bursaries to undergraduate and postgraduate students. The bursary programme provides financial assistance to students pursuing a legal education.
For Undergraduate Students
- Coverage: The LPFF bursary covers the final two years of the LLB program. Students currently in their 2nd year can apply for financial assistance for their 3rd and 4th years, while those in their 3rd year can apply for final-year funding.
- Expenses Covered: The bursary primarily covers tuition fees.
For Postgraduate Students
- Coverage: The bursary is available to practicing attorneys or candidate attorneys pursuing postgraduate studies to enhance their professional qualifications.
- Duration: The bursary is awarded for a period of two years, with a maximum value of R8,000 per year.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the LPFF bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen or a permanent resident.
- Education Level:
- For undergraduates: Must be in the 2nd or 3rd year of an LLB or other law-related degree (BComm Law, BA Law, BProc, or BJuris) at a recognized university.
- For postgraduates: Must be a practicing attorney or candidate attorney studying at a recognized university.
- Academic Performance: Must have an excellent academic record.
- Financial Need: Preference is given to students with demonstrated financial need.
The final decision on bursary awards is made by the LPFF Board of Control, which reviews all applications on a case-by-case basis.

- Academic transcript (including 2021 Semester 1 results)
- Testimonial from the Dean of the Faculty of Law
- Documentation of other bursaries you may be receiving
For Postgraduate Students:
- Passport-sized photograph
- Certified copy of South African ID or permanent residence
- Official academic transcript (including Semester 1 results)
- Complete academic record and degree certificate (on institution’s letterhead)
- Salary advice slip (if applicable)
- Testimonial from the Dean of your Faculty of Law
- Details of any other bursary, grant, or financial assistance received
