About UCT Online High School

Established in June 2021, the UCT Online High School, a pioneering initiative by the University of Cape Town (UCT), is the first university in Africa to offer online secondary education. Accredited by the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI), UCT Online High School delivers the South African National Curriculum (CAPS) for Grades 8-12, culminating in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) upon successful completion.

UCT Online High School Scholarship Programme

UCT Online High School invites applications for the Learning Liberated Scholarship & Bursary Programme for the 2025 academic year. This scholarship aims to support students who cannot fully afford the tuition fees, enabling them to complete their high school education online.

Scholarship Details

The Learning Liberated Scholarship covers 80% of the tuition fees and includes full coverage for the SACAI Grade 12 Examination fee. This partial scholarship allows UCT Online High School to support more students in need.

Scholarship Coverage

The Learning Liberated Scholarship provides significant financial assistance, covering 80% of tuition fees and the Grade 12 Examination fee. This substantial support aims to make quality education more accessible.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the UCT Online High School Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Reside in South Africa at the time of application and throughout the scholarship period.
  • Have at least one parent or guardian who is a South African citizen.
  • Be entering Grade 8, Grade 9, Grade 10, or Grade 11.
  • Start the program in January 2025.
  • Intend to complete the CAPS curriculum to achieve the NSC.
  • Demonstrate financial need with a family income of no more than R350,000 per annum or R29,000 per month.
  • Achieve a minimum average of 50% in English (Home Language).
  • Achieve a minimum average of 50% in Mathematics (for Grades 8-10) or 40% in Mathematics/Mathematics Literacy (for Grade 11).
  • Have access to a reliable internet connection, a laptop or desktop, and a printer.
  • Have a safe learning environment with support from at least one adult supervisor.
  • You must read and agree to the rules of the scholarship policy 

    HOW TO APPLY FOR THE UCTOHS SCHOLARSHIP

Application Timeline

  • Application Period: 6 May 2024 – 31 August 2024.
  • Shortlisting and Placement Fee: 1 September 2024 – 30 September 2024.
  • Scholarship Award and Acceptance: 1 October 2024 – 31 October 2024.
    • Successful candidates will receive a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and must submit their 2024 Term 4 Final Academic Report.

Unsuccessful applicants will be notified via email.
