About the SAILI High School Scholarship Programme 2024

SAILI is inviting students to apply for its High School Scholarship for the 2024 academic year. This scholarship is designed for students entering Grade 8 in 2024 who excel in Mathematics and Science. It is specifically aimed at candidates from low-income families who might not have the financial means to fund their high school education. Scholars will be placed in one of SAILI’s partner schools, which include:

  • Claremont High School
  • De Kuilen High School
  • Milnerton High School
  • Pinelands High School
  • Rylands High School
  • Spine Road High School
  • South Peninsula High School
  • The Settlers High School

SAILI’s mission is to identify and support talented students within the state education system, providing them with the resources they need to achieve their academic potential.

Scholarship Coverage and Selection Process

The SAILI High School Scholarship covers various educational expenses, including:

  • School Fees: Up to R12,000 per year.
  • Tailored Educational Package: Covering stationary, textbooks, uniforms, and other school-related expenses, up to R5,300 per year, depending on family income and other factors.

In addition, students may receive educational and psychosocial support, including tutoring and counseling, as needed. The scholarship also offers:

  • Educational Outings: Focused on Mathematics and Science.
  • Workshops: Covering study skills, career planning, and learning support.
  • Quarterly Academic Monitoring: Providing feedback on learning progress.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified by 30 January 2025. If you do not receive any feedback by this date, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Eligibility Criteria for the SAILI High School Scholarship

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Current Grade Level: Must be in Grade 6 in 2023 and entering Grade 7 in 2024.
  • Academic Performance: Must have achieved a minimum of code 6 (70%) in English, Mathematics, and Natural Science in your Grade 6 Term 3 report.
  • Household Income: Must have a gross monthly household income of less than R15,000 (before deductions).
  • School Application: Must have applied or plan to apply to one of the partner schools in the Western Cape for the 2025 academic year.
  • Learning Attitude: Must have and maintain a positive approach to learning.

How to Apply for the SAILI High School Scholarship

The application process involves two steps:

  1. Online Application: Apply at the SAILI High School Scholarship Application portal. Be sure to mention “southafricanfinders.com” when asked how you heard about the scholarship.
  2. Supporting Documents: Submit clear copies of the following documents via email to apply@saili.org.za:
    • Certified copy of your Birth Certificate
    • Grade 6 Term 3 report
    • Parents’ or guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, proof of grant or pension, if applicable)
    • An essay explaining why you believe you would be a good candidate for this scholarship and how it would impact your life and your family’s life. Highlight your strengths, challenges, achievements, role model, and involvement in school and community.

Important Notes About the SAILI Scholarship

  • Recipients must maintain an overall academic aggregate of 60% and continue taking Mathematics and Science into the senior phase.
  • Scholars are required to submit their reports each term to SAILI for monitoring and must participate in all SAILI outings and workshops.
  • Acceptance to a partner school does not guarantee a scholarship.
  • SAILI will meet with shortlisted candidates while they are in Grade 6.
  • Interviews, including a Mathematics test and a second-round screening for motivation, grit, self-reflection, and goal setting, will take place in November 2024.
  • Successful candidates will be selected by February 2025, allowing time for school applications.
