About the Bursary Provider – SIOC-CDT
SIOC-CDT Bursary South Africa | The Sishen Iron Ore Company-Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT), established in 2006, is dedicated to investing in the development of communities where SIOC (PTY) LTD operates. The Trust primarily serves areas within various municipal jurisdictions in the Northern Cape and one in Limpopo. Founded by Sishen Iron Ore Company SIOC (PTY) LTD, a subsidiary of Kumba Iron Ore (KIO) (PTY) LTD, SIOC-CDT has provided numerous bursaries to underprivileged students, enabling them to pursue higher education at institutions across South Africa.
About the SIOC-CDT Bursary Programme – Fields Covered
SIOC-CDT is inviting applications for its 2025 bursary programme from students residing in its beneficiary communities in the Northern Cape and Limpopo. While the bursary is open to students in all fields of study, the following disciplines are preferred:
- Agriculture: Agricultural Economist, Agricultural Engineer, Food Technologist, Environmental Officer, Food Technician, Livestock Product Analyst, Veterinarian.
- Business Management and Economics: Accounting, Actuarial Science, Auditing and Tax, Economics, Project Management, Statistics, and Mathematics.
- Education: BEd. Foundation Phase, BEd. Natural Science, BEd. FET Mathematics, BEd. FET Physical Science, Economics and Management Science, BEd. Language, BEd. Special Needs.
- Engineering and Science: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Health, Geology, Quantity Surveying, Town Planning.
- Health and Clinical Sciences: Advanced EMS, Biochemistry, Chemical, Biological, Medical Lab Sciences, Dentistry, MBChB, Nursing, Pharmacy.
- Information Technology: Computer Sciences and Communication, Data Science or Analytics, Software Development, Web Design and Development.
- Law: LLB.
- Tourism: Arts and Culture Heritage, Ecotourism Management, Hospitality Management.
Note: While preference is given to the fields listed above, students pursuing other fields are also encouraged to apply.
Bursary Coverage & Selection Process
The SIOC-CDT bursary provides comprehensive financial support, covering:
- Registration and tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Prescribed study materials
- A laptop
- A monthly stipend
Additionally, students with disabilities will receive assistive devices to aid their learning.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews. If you have not received feedback by 6 February 2025, consider your application unsuccessful.
Eligibility Requirements for the SIOC-CDT Bursary
To qualify for the SIOC-CDT Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be under 35 years old at the closing date.
- Reside in or originate from one of the beneficiary areas: Gamagara Local Municipality (Northern Cape), Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality (Northern Cape), Tsantsabane Local Municipality (Northern Cape), Joe Morolong Local Municipality (Northern Cape), or Thabazimbi Local Municipality (Limpopo).
- Be currently in Matric (2024) or have completed Matric.
- Be studying or planning to study towards an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in one of the preferred fields.
- Have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your most recent academic results.
- Have been accepted to study at a recognized public tertiary institution (University, University of Technology, TVET, or FET College) in South Africa for 2025.
- Be in financial need, with a household income of less than R600,000 per year.
Preference will be given to students with disabilities and undergraduate students.

Required Documents:
- Certified copy of your ID document
- Certified copy of your Matric mid-year/prelim results (if currently in Matric)
- Certified copy of your Matric certificate (if completed Matric)
- Certified copy of your most recent tertiary academic results/transcripts (if currently studying)
- Proof of acceptance or provisional acceptance to a public tertiary institution (on institution’s letterhead)
- Parents’ or guardians’ proof of household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed)
- Proof of residence (rates and taxes or water and electricity account, letter from landlord, or affidavit from your local councilor)
- Medical note explaining the type of disability (if applicable)
Note: All certified documents must not be older than 3 months.
