Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Allan Gray Orbis High School Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens (one parent must also be a South African citizen)
  • Be between 11 and 12 years old (born in 2012 or 2013)
  • Be in Grade 6 during the 2024 academic year and entering Grade 8 in 2026
  • Demonstrate financial need with a household income of no more than R20,000 per month
  • Achieve at least 70% in English and Mathematics in Grades 5 and 6
  • Maintain an overall average of 70% in Grades 5 and 6
  • Show an interest in entrepreneurship and possess key entrepreneurial traits such as growth mindset, self-efficacy, leadership, opportunity identification, curiosity, and problem-solving skills

How to Apply

Applications can be submitted online or manually:

Online Application:

  1. Register on the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Scholarship website.
  2. Log in and complete the online application form.
  3. Upload required supporting documents.

  2. Collect required supporting documents.
  3. Submit your completed form and documents via:

Supporting Documentation Required:

  • Certified copy of unabridged birth certificate
  • Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
  • Certified copies of Grade 5 term 4 and Grade 6 term 2 reports
  • Proof of income (latest payslips, bank statements, tax statements, or affidavit if unemployed)
  • Death certificate (if parents are deceased)
  • Divorce decree (if parents are divorced)
  • Proof of legal guardianship (if applicable)

Selection Process

  1. Submit your application and supporting documents.
  2. Successful candidates will take a Foundation exam in Mathematics and English in December 2024.
  3. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interviews from February to March 2025.
  4. Placement school interviews will follow, and recommendations will be considered for the final award.
  5. Scholarship awards will be formalized with a Memorandum of Agreement signed by the Foundation, placement school, and the scholar’s custodian.
  6. All applicants will receive feedback via SMS regarding their application status.
