ATNS Bursaries South Africa 2024: Launch Your Career in Aviation

Are you passionate about aviation and eager to pursue a career in air traffic management or related fields? The Air Traffic and Navigation Services SOC Limited (ATNS) is offering bursaries for the 2025 academic year, designed to support students in various aviation-related disciplines. This opportunity is perfect for those who aspire to join the aviation industry and make a significant impact.

About ATNS

ATNS is a premier provider of air traffic management, navigation services, training, and related services in South Africa. The company plays a critical role in managing air traffic across significant parts of the Southern Indian and Atlantic Ocean regions, aiming to become the leading supplier of Air Traffic Management solutions in Africa and selected global markets.

ATNS operates the Aviation Training Academy (ATA), which provides comprehensive Air Traffic Services and Engineering Training to employees, as well as offering aviation and safety courses across Africa and the Middle East.

ATNS Bursaries for 2025

ATNS is offering two types of bursaries for students pursuing careers in the aviation industry. The academic training will be conducted at the ATNS Aviation Training Academy (ATA) in Bonaero Park, Johannesburg.

1. Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO) Bursary

The ATSO Bursary is designed for students who aim to become Air Traffic Services Officers. ATSOs play a crucial role in supporting Air Traffic Controllers by managing various tasks such as handling phone calls and using radio transceivers for air traffic-related activities. This role is vital in the air navigation team, offering career opportunities in Aerodrome Air Traffic Control (ATCO1), Approach Procedural and Radar Air Traffic Control (ATCO2/3), and Area Procedural and Radar Air Traffic Control (ATCO3).

Students awarded this bursary will be responsible for programming training exercises that mirror live operational environments and maintaining operational data and documentation.

Training Phases

The ATNS training program is divided into three phases:

  • Core Content Course: A 21-week theory-based foundation course held at the ATA in Gauteng.
  • ATS Rating Course: A practical-based course complementing theory training, conducted at the ATA in Gauteng.
  • ATS Validation: A practical module involving on-the-job training, conducted at OR Tambo International Airport or Cape Town International Airport.

The bursary will cover the following costs:
