About the Spirit Education Foundation (SEF)
Spirit Education Foundation Trust High School Scholarship South Africa | The Spirit Education Foundation Trust (SEF) is a Cape Town-based non-profit organization committed to transforming lives through education. SEF’s primary mission is to provide educational scholarships to underprivileged high school students in the Western Cape. By offering these scholarships, SEF aims to uplift the nation, providing students with the resources and mentorship necessary to excel academically, foster creativity, and build strong community connections.
SEF High School Scholarship Programme 2025
SEF is inviting applications for its 2025 High School Scholarship programme. This opportunity is available to students entering Grade 8 in 2025 and planning to attend one of SEF’s partner high schools in Cape Town:
- Bergvliet High School (Bergvliet)
- Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (Constantia)
- Claremont High School (Claremont)
- Groote Schuur High School (Newlands)
- Pinelands High School (Pinelands)
- South Peninsula High School (Diep River)
- Westerford High School (Rondebosch)
- Wynberg Boys High School (Wynberg)
- Wynberg Girls High School (Wynberg)
- Zwaanswyk High School (Retreat)
Scholarship Benefits and Coverage
The SEF scholarship covers a range of essential expenses, including high school fees, academic support, school uniforms, and specific stationery needs. In addition, SEF offers a unique mentorship programme tailored to each student’s needs. This mentorship is designed to support the student’s academic journey, emotional well-being, skills development, and community involvement. Through regular communication with students, their families, and schools, SEF ensures a holistic approach to student development, fostering creativity, leadership, and active community participation.
Eligibility Criteria for the SEF High School Scholarship
To be considered for the SEF High School Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be in Grade 6 in 2024.
- Have achieved at least a Code 6 in English (Home Language), Mathematics, and Natural Sciences on their Grade 6 Term 1 report.
- Have a gross family household income of no more than R20 000 per month (before deductions).
- Plan to start Grade 8 in 2025.
- Intend to study at one of SEF’s partner high schools.
- Reside within the Western Cape.
How to Apply for the SEF High School Scholarship
Applications can be submitted in one of two ways:
- Online Application: Complete the SEF High School Scholarship Application 2025 online.
- Download and Submit: Download the SEF High School Scholarship Application Form 2025 (.pdf), complete it, and submit it via email.

Supporting Documents:
- Birth certificate, passport, or study permit
- Parents’ or guardians’ ID documents, passport, or permit
- Grade 6 Term 2/3 report card
- Proof of residence
- Parents’ or guardian’s proof of household income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, pension advice slip, or SASSA grant proof) – all copies must be certified
- A 500-word essay answering: “If you were given R1 million, what would you do with the money and why?”
Important Notes for Applicants
- Parents are encouraged to read the SEF High School Scholar Handbook (.pdf) for detailed information.
- Scholarships are only awarded to students attending one of SEF’s partner schools.
- Parents should apply to multiple schools to increase the chances of acceptance.
- The Western Cape Government application process must be followed as SEF does not hold scholarship spots.
